An Open Letter to Voters considering Trump:

In a little over 60 days, the United States will be conducting a general election for several local and federal positions including the office of President. For the past four years, Donald Trump has occupied this office but, our Constitution dictates that his term in office has expired and, "we the people", get to determine if he should have another term.

I know there are a lot of people who are valiant supporters of the current President; they feel that he has indeed made America great again so, this letter is not directed at them. They have already made up their mind and I know it would be foolish to try and convince them otherwise. This message goes out to those who may be considering Trump for a second term, for the first time. This message is to ensure that you know for who and what you are voting. Now, I will not seek to treat those who may be considering Trump as lesser or stupid. Instead, I just want to ensure that no one is under any misapprehension regarding their vote.

Some of you may vote for Trump because he’s the “Law and Order” candidate. Maybe you have seen the riots and protests this summer and thought, “I don’t want that in my town.” Maybe you have seen burning businesses like the car dealership in Kenosha, Wisconsin and felt the pain and fear of the business owner as their livelihood went up in flames. Of course, the criminals who lit those fires are to blame but remember what sparked those protests and riots this summer; unarmed black men and women getting killed by police officers with frightening regularity. If you are concerned about the sanctity of human life, then you must agree that human life is worth far more than property damage. You see, businesses may have insurance and, those same businesses may be compensated for their losses but, families that have lost a loved one to the excitable trigger finger, arm, boot or knee of a police officer will receive no such recompense.

They're just gone forever.

Ask yourself, has the President of the United States has done enough to calm those tensions or, has he aligned himself with one side of the argument while vilifying the other? What has he done to calm the situation down? To my knowledge, he sent unmarked federal agents into the cities of his political opponents to keep the fight going. To my knowledge, he has tacitly supported the Kenosha shooter, who is accused of two counts of murder. If Trump is the true “Law and Order” candidate, then what was the point of sending in unmarked federal agents into his opponent’s cities? Those are the tactics of dictators. Why doesn't he reject the Kenosha Shooter? Does that sound American to you? Does it sound like the America you want to live in?

Some of you may be voting for Trump because "he has a firm grip on the economy". I mean, he did/does run a multi-billion (?) dollar corporation. If true, this may be a good track record but, we've never seen his tax returns and he has fought very hard to keep them private which should raise a few questions. Maybe you're voting for him because his tax cuts are saving you some money that you can use to invest or buy something nice. Of course, those tax cuts to individuals are temporary, due to expire in five years (businesses get to keep their’s) and, when that happens, a lot of Americans could see a massive balloon payment in their taxes if the cuts aren't extended.

This means he left a financial time bomb in the pockets of the average American worker.

Maybe you’ve heard that minority unemployment is at an all-time low but, employment statistics show that trend was already happening, it’s like taking credit for running a marathon when you’ve jumped in at the finish line.

Maybe you’re thinking about voting for Trump because he’s hard on immigration. After all, he’s promised to build a wall against Mexico that they were going to pay for, but of course, they aren’t paying for it...we are. Furthermore, there was already a giant border fence along the southern border to which Trump has only added five additional miles with other parts falling over because it was windy.

Maybe you’re thinking about voting for Trump because he’s shaking up Washington and DRAINING THE SWAMP. Of course, he’s fired most of the people that he started with and, a lot of those guys have been arrested or are in jail. So, it seems that he filled his administration with those people who may have already been a little swampy themselves.

Maybe you’re voting for Trump because he’s a family-values conservative. Of course, that couldn't be the case because, just as the Republican National Convention was starting, a California court ordered Trump to pay Stormy Daniel's court fees regarding his affair with her where his lawyer (currently in under house arrest) illegally used campaign money to pay her off.

Maybe you’re voting for Trump because he’s keeping America safe but, as widely reported, he’s ignored briefings that the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, has put bounties on the heads of American soldiers. Or perhaps you may think that he has done a good job protecting the country from the Coronavirus but, that can’t be the case because the United States of America has the HIGHEST CORONAVIRUS INFECTION RATE AND DEATH COUNT IN THE WORLD. To put that in context, our current death toll equates to a little over sixty 9/11’s. It continues to rise every day.

By any evaluation, Trump has been a cataclysmic President. The only thing I can say about him is that he makes certain people feel good and that’s what drives his vote. So, if you are voting for Trump because he makes you feel good, then admit that’s the reason why. But know that the person who makes you feel like that is poisoning the very heart of our American democracy. He’s destabilising the US Postal Service and cutting Congress out of securing our elections in a clear effort to undermine our elections because he’s scared he’s going to lose and, just to be clear, that was just in the past two months!

He’s ignored MILLIONS of people during this pandemic with some reports that his son in law, who inexplicably works for him in the White House, held back a testing plan for early coronavirus victims because the majority of victims were in blue states! This was reportedly done because they thought COVID-19 would quickly disappear and they could use the virus as a political weapon. This is a person who consistently sides with racists and fascists to whom he also gives the warm and fuzzy feelings.

So, if you are considering voting for Trump then know, this is who you are voting for. Know that he’s working, not to drain the swamp, but to end American democracy and he’s been at it since day one. He’s appointed completely incompetent people to lead important Government departments, he doesn’t reject the support of "QAnon", an essentially anti-semitic conspiracy theory that believes that left-wing celebrities are drinking the blood of babies as a youth serum.

If after all you have seen here you are still considering Trump then please listen to the words of General Mark Milley. He is the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff and he has had to declare that the United States Armed Forces will not be part of the U.S. Electoral Process. Please, think about that. A U.S. General has to ensure the people that the U.S Army will not interfere in the U.S. election because some lawmakers think the President may abuse his power and call on them to act on HIS behalf.

I write this message as a warning of things to come. Trump openly talks about ignoring the result of the election. He regularly talks about getting a third or fourth term. He's actively looking into secret edicts to circumvent Congress'ability to oversee the executive branch which may give him, or any President, unprecedented powers.

I hope the point is clear. I hope that if you were considering voting for Trump. You have changed your mind but, if you haven't, know that you accept all of these failings. Know that he isn't a conservative, he's not a Republican, he's a fascist. He's undermined the elections. He stokes racism. He attacks the free press and he demonizes large parts of the country while claiming to be the only force that can save America. That is the definition of fascism and that's what you get if you vote for him.

Never before has the democracy of the United States of America been at such a dangerous crossroads.

What I've written isn't exaggeration or hyperbole, it is a taste of things to come.
