Comey's Dagger
Why Comey's announcement has all the trappings of a political hit
High Level + High Visibility + Low Information = Political Hit
On Friday 28 October, the director of the FBI, James Comey announced that he was re-opening an investigation in to emails associated with Hillary Clinton.
The headlines burned across social media and news outlets. The question was renewed. What had she done now? What do the emails say? Will this be the end of her campaign?
The right wing press jumped on the news linking it with the perma-narrative that Clinton is untrustworthy and only “PG Donald can save us now.”
The headlines were not kind, forcing Clinton to demand that the Director of the FBI clarify his position and reasoning. Within hours, both Republicans and Democrats were demanding the same thing as his letter to Congress may have violated the Hatch Act which makes it illegal for high level Government employees from influencing elections.
Even ardent American conservatives Newt Gingrich and Joe Walsh have called Comey's actions into question.
So why does this sound like a political hit to me? Because I’m from Chicago. In my lifetime I’ve seen two Governor’s get arrested and go to jail for MASSIVE CORRUPTION. When they get charged with corruption the US Marshals or the FBI have a stack of evidence against them. No one came at Rod Blagojevich
with the weak water that Comey apparently has.We knew that he tried to sell President, then Senator, Obama's senate seat.
No one came at George Ryan with metadata or, the equivalent at the time.
We knew that he and, his office, sold fake drivers' licenses to untrained drivers which lead to the death of a family on the interstate.
I knew this because this organisations that went after these politicians knew that when you go after high-level officials, you better have your ducks in a row!
Comey didn’t even have a warrant when he sent his vague letter to Congress which means he never even saw the emails when he published the statement.
With eight days left in the election period, you need to present a serious case for releasing anything that will serious damage only one candidate. If the IRS unilaterally released Donald Trump’s tax returns without his permission it would also be an outrage but, even that, would have more substance than what the Director of the FBI has dumped into the public.
Also, it seems that Comey refused to name Russian ties to hacking in the current US election campaign but, deemed it fit to stir the pot with Hillary.
What Comey has released was an information-lite statement that, by default, has created a lot of noise. The key trapping of a political hit is that it allows people to create their own stories from the headline. Without any serious facts coming from the FBI all that remains is the fear.
How does one defend themselves from baseless attacks from the random and absurd?
Did you hear there are another 650,000 emails that Hillary did not disclose and, at least 60,000 of them have top secret information? Neither did I but, in the absence of the truth, there’s only conjecture and conjecture is the nitrous fuel of the media.
