Week Four
As we enter Trump’s first month there are more questions than answers. His National Security Adviser, Michael Flynn had to resign because he may have broken the Logan Act when he communicated to the Russian ambassador Mr Trump’s intentions before he became President.
His “counsellor” Kellyanne Conway has had to defend herself from violating ethics regulations as she urged America to buy Ivanka Trumps' clothing line.
His choice for Labor secretary had to recuse himself because of accusations of spousal abuse.
All the while Trump says that his adminstration is running like a well-oiled machine.
All the while the right wing and moderate right are finding harder and harder to support Mr Trump as he continues to “do what he said he was going to do” in office.
What the keen observer will have missed over these past weeks is the absence of any large scale announcement on jobs policy. You will have noted that the President has spent much capital targeting illegal immigrants including proposals to draft in the National Guard to round up illegals.
Of course there's little detail on how this immigrant search force will be able to track down the illegals. They aren't, for example, wearing some identifying symbol, perhaps a sombrero, to let people know they are not legally in the country.
I suppose the answer will be, let's just round up people who, “don’t look American” and sort it out once they've been deported.
All the while, Trump supporters who do not have an issue with immigrants are still waiting for their pick to come up with substantive policy that will positively affect their life.
The problem with this administration is that at this very early stage they seem to have no idea how to manage themselves or the country.
